IIM-Ahmedabad graduates Aprameya Radhakrishna and Raghunandan G had a plan and in 2011 TaxiForSure was launched, as per that plan, an online cab renting service that was hassle-free. After its successful stint in Bangalore, the company expanded their operations to Ahemdabad, Surat, and Pune etc. They also created Mobile apps, enabling booking of a taxi via twitter too. Eventually Ola acquired TaxiForSure for $200 million in a cash and equity deal on 2 March 2015.
After quitting their jobs at Amazon.com, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal formed Flipkart in 2007, one of the most successful brands in the country. Their cash-on-delivery model was a big hit and is been used by many other ecommerce companies today.
With operations in 6000 towns across the country and over 30 million products Snapdeal has become one of the largest online marketplaces in India. Kunal Bahl was 25 when he founded Snapdeal along with his IIT-Delhi alumni friend Rohit Bansal after giving up his job at Microsoft. The company now boasts 500+ product categories and over 20000 sellers.
Phanindra Sama along with his BITS batch mates Charan Padmaraju and Sudhakar Pasupunuri founded RedBus, the largest online bus ticket platform in India and he was only 25 then. It was an immense success and was eventually bought by Ibibo for an estimated 600-700 Crores.
Two IIT-Kanpur students Ayush Varshney and Sahil Baghla took the leap of faith with a capital of Rs. 2 lakh and founded Bluegape from their hostel rooms. Starting as a professional poster making company they expanded the product categories and now make diverse products like coffee mugs, t-shirts, laptop-skins etc.
Another such inspiring story is of the Founders of Atomberg, a modern hardware company founded in 2012. The idea of producing energy-efficient, appliances for household and businesses lead them to form Atomberg. Their 1st product the ‘Gorilla Fan’ was a great success and has been gladly accepted by many households and institutions as it is low in power consumption thereby saves you 65% on your electricity bills.
