40W Ceiling Fan

With years of technical advancement and R&D, ceiling fans have evolved to a great extent. Today, they come in a variety of styles, colours, and shapes. Ceiling fans have been further classified based on their performance, power consumption, number of blades, size, and so on. But no matter which fan one chooses to buy, a smart consumer always prefers energy efficient fans.
There are many energy efficient ceiling fans available in the market which have become increasingly popular because they are quite powerful despite their low energy consumption. One such fan is the 40 W ceiling fan, an economical and practical choice for your household.

Product Description
Usually, the 40 W ceiling fans available in the market are equipped with different features and modifications tailor-made to suit the needs of every consumer.
As the name suggests, this ceiling fan consumes only 40W of power, and hence, qualifies as one of the best energy efficient models among ceiling fans. The 40 W ceiling fan has three blades, and the overall weight (including the motor) is around 4.5 kg. Consuming around 230V, it has a rotating frequency of 50Hz and a speed of 300 rpm.
It is priced somewhere around 2,700 – 3,000 INR.

Power Consumption Of A 40 W Fan
Although the 40 W ceiling fan consumes less power and saves a considerable amount of energy, it does not come under the energy efficient fans category (specifically designed for energy saving purposes). This is because of its motor size and high speed of rotation. Nevertheless, they are one of the most energy efficient fans that you can come across in this above-mentioned price range.
Most 40 W ceiling fans models are 5-star rated – this entails a minimal power consumption even with a higher running time of the fan. Apart from energy saving function, these ceiling fans are usually anti-corrosion, rust resistant, and durable. In case of any kind of damage due to these factors or accidental damage, they come with a 2-year warranty period, within which you can repair or replace damaged parts of the fan for free.

Speed Of The 40 W Ceiling Fan
The speed of a fan depends on the length of its blades, along with other factors (e.g. type of motor used). Fans with short blades rotate at a higher speed than those with longer blades. The reason behind this is simple – short blades face much lesser air resistance during rotation than longer blades owing to their short area (blade span).
Most 40 W ceiling fans have long blades, and thus, their speed of rotation is lesser when compared to fans with shorter blades. However, they rotate at a rate of 300 rpm, which is quite impressive in this category.

Motor In The 40 W Ceiling Fan
The motor is one of the most significant determinants of fan speed and performance. Like any other fan, the speed and power consumption of 40 W ceiling fans are also governed by the type of motor used in them.
Below are given the types of motors that are used in these fans:
K55: Though a tad expensive, this motor is not just durable but also provides an excellent performance.
DC: At present, DC motor is known to be the most technologically advanced and energy efficient motors that you can find. Even though they generate high power, they consume up to 75% less energy than other motors.

Functioning Of The 40 W Ceiling Fan
40 W ceiling fan functions just like any other ceiling fan. The electrical motor forms the crux of the fan. It converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. The motor is torqued up by the capacitor of the ceiling fan. This causes the fan to start running. When the electrical current enters the motor, it passes onto the coils of wire that are wrapped around a metal base. The current passing through these coils creates a magnetic field around it. This magnetic field exerts force in a clockwise motion. This is how the electric energy is converted into mechanical energy. Consequently, the blades attached to the motor also start gaining momentum as the motor spins.

Speed Control
Every fan has some method for controlling the speed, and a 40 W ceiling fan is no exception. There are two ways in which you can control the speed of your fan – solid state setups and capacitor regulators.
In a solid-state setup, you can alter the controls of the setup to change the power of the motor. So, you can switch between low, medium and high levels of speed. Contrary to this, capacitor regulators allow you to adjust the voltage across the motor of the fan. If you increase the resistance, the voltage across the capacitor decreases and that across the fan motor increases. Thus, the fan speed increases and vice versa.

Cooling Property Of The Fan
A ceiling fan essentially circulates the air around the room. As the warm, lighter air rises, the cool, heavier air sinks down. This is how air naturally startifies. When the hot air rises, the blades of the fan slice this air. As the air cools, it naturally sinks down. This is how air is circulated in the room continuously.
While it is true that fans make us feel cool, they do not cool the air. They merely escalate the evaporation of the sweat on human skin, making us feel cool.
The best thing about a 40 W ceiling fan is that it will make you feel cool at minimum costs!
