An air cooler is rooted in the principle of evaporative cooling. As the hot air passes through a wet medium in the cooler, evaporation occurs and the air is pushed out of the cooler. There are two types of air coolers:

A fan, on the other hand, is an arrangement of an impeller and blades. Rather than cooling the air, fans circulate the air around us rapidly, speeding up the evaporation of the sweat on our bodies, thereby, giving us a ‘cool feeling’.

Impeller Blades:
The tower-like structure houses a cylindrical container with an impeller. The blades of this impeller set the air in motion within the cylindrical structure and then pushes it towards the vents of the fan. Contrary to a regular fan where the blades move the air horizontally, the blades of a tower fan move the air up and down the column.
Air Blower:
The air blower moves the air through a vertical shaft. Then this air travels to the air guide from where the airflow heads towards the exit vent. Finally, the air is pushed out from the air blower and is evenly distributed throughout the room. Since heat travels in the same direction as the air, tower fans can get heated. To combat this issue, they are equipped with a polarized plug with one wide blade (which should only be inserted into a polarized outlet). This lets the heat pass through without overheating the fan.
