A false ceiling, also known as a dropped ceiling, is a secondary ceiling that hangs beneath the primary ceiling of the room with the help of a metal or wooden frame. Today, false ceilings are a trendy feature of modern architecture owing to their extravagant aesthetic appeal.

 

False ceilings were originally used to conceal the underside of the floor lying above (electrical wires, light fixtures, air-conditioning ducts, etc.) and to offer an acoustic balance and control in the room.
