Moong Dal Dosa: Breakfast Proteins Are On Your Way

Equipment

  • Small bowls
  • Big bowls
  • Non-stick frying pan
  • Dosa ladle
  • Wooden spatula
  • Teaspoons
  • Tablespoons
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 serving plate
  • 1 serving bowl
  • 1 knife
  • Atomberg Mixer Grinder 500-ml chopper jar

Method of Preparation

  • Take 2 small bowls of moong dal and soak it in water for an hour.
  • Once the dal is soaked, add it to the 500-ml chopper jar.
  • Close the lid and the LED light indicator turns to blue when it is locked properly.
  • Grind it on Coarse Mode which allows for a silbatta-like texture, reminiscent of home-style cooking.
  • Once done, take the coarsely textured paste out in a mixing bowl.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of rice flour, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • Mix the ingredients properly.
  • Now add sliced carrot, sliced onion, freshly cut coriander, a teaspoon of green chilli pieces and baking soda into the mixture.
  • Keep mixing until all the ingredients are properly intertwined and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Now, heat some oil in a frying pan.
  • Add a good amount of mixture to the pan with the help of a dosa ladle and spread it properly on the pan.
  • Now quickly sprinkle the ginger and beetroot slices on the flattened batter.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side and add butter just before removing it from the pan.
  • Cut the dosa into four pieces, serve with pudina chutney and your evening snack is all set!

Tips/ Tricks

  • If you cannot wait an hour for soaking the moong dal, let it soak in warm water for 30 minutes.
  • Once the dal is soaked, ensure to rinse it well.
  • If needed, add water while grinding the moong dal to a coarse-textured paste in Atomberg Mixer Grinder
  • You can also add some water while mixing all the ingredients to smoothen it a little. It is because a highly thick batter wouldn’t spread on the frying pan.
  • If you want, you would also love this moong dal dosa with paneer or potatoes on the side or as a filling. Here’s how to prepare it:
    • Heat oil in a pan on medium heat and add mustard seeds. Once they start popping, add sliced onion, ginger, curry leaves and green chilli.
    • Once sautéed, add paneer cubes to the mixture with turmeric and salt. Stir them well for 1-2 minutes.
    • Now, mash the paneer, add some cilantro, cook 1-2 minutes more and your filling is ready.
    • Voila! Here you go with your filling.
