Nutty Nibbles: A Twist on Tradition with Dry Fruit Modak

Equipment

  • 1 small bowl 
  • A frying pan
  • 1 spatula 
  • A gas stove or an induction plate 
  • 1 plate 
  • 1 mixing bowl 
  • 1 big bowl 
  • Modak making mould 
  • 2-3 spoons 
  • A serving plate 
  • Atomberg Mixer Grinder 
  • A 500 ml chopper jar 
  • A 500 ml chutney jar 

Method of Preparation 

What to do with the sliced coconut pieces?  

  • Take your kitchen companion, the Atomberg Mixer Grinder to start the process.
  • Now, take 1 small bowl of dry and sliced coconut pieces and empty it into the 500 mL chopper jar.
  • Close the lid, and the safety LED light turns to blue when the jar is locked properly. 
  • Use the Coarse Mode to get a perfect coarse texture.
  • Grind the coconut pieces and empty the jar into the frying pan. 
  • Roast the grounded coconut on a slow flame until they are fragrant and turn light brown in colour. 
  • Transfer the roasted coconut into the mixing bowl. 

Let’s jump onto the dry fruits and seeds, shall we?  

  • Now take a handful of dry fruits and seeds. 
  • Put them in a frying pan and dry roast them for 2 minutes on a low flame. 
  • Once they are roasted, empty the contents of the frying pan into the 500 mL chopper jar. 
  • Close the lid, and the safety LED light turns to blue when the jar is locked properly.
  • Chop the dry fruits for a perfect texture.
  • Transfer them to the mixing bowl with the roasted coconut. 

Dates & figs need some attention too, don’t they?  

  • Time to take out the dry figs and dates.
  • Pour a spoonful of ghee and roast them for 1 minute. 
  • Add them to the 500 mL chopper jar and grind it to a perfectly fine paste.
  • Add this paste to the mixing bowl with roasted coconut and dry fruits & seeds.
  • Add a spoonful of ghee in it, a teaspoon of cardamom powder and a pinch of saffron.
  • Now, knead the whole mixture into a dough. 

We can’t wait for the decadent Modaks, can you?

  • Take the Modak mould and grease it with ghee. 
  • Now make Modaks one by one with the freshly prepared dough 
  • Tada! Your Modaks are ready.

Tips/Tricks   

  • You can also shape them into ladoos. Did you know that these ladoos are so healthy as an after-school snack for your kids?  
  • The add-ons can differ from person to person. You can also add dried apricots while grinding the figs and dates. It will definitely enhance the taste. 
  • These dry fruits Modaks are also prepared with an outer layer of rice flour, you can also try the same at home. 
  • Try to make sure that the dates you are using are soft; if not, then soak them for a few minutes until they are softened.
