Atomberg Intellon Water PurifierOct 16, 25

One of the best product

September 2025

The Atomberg Intellon water purifier is currently one of the most modern and future-ready options in the market. It comes with a sleek, premium design, a 7-stage purification system, and an 8-liter storage tank. The adaptive filtration system automatically selects the right purification mode based on the TDS of the water, which helps extend filter life and reduces water wastage. App support allows you to monitor filter health, TDS levels, and usage details. The two-year warranty and no AMC requirement make it even more attractive.

At the same time, some users have reported issues such as units arriving dead on delivery or showing errors within a few days. Service support is not always fast, and complaints may take time to resolve. The adaptive mode relies only on TDS readings and cannot detect heavy metals, which raises some safety concerns. It is also power-dependent, meaning water dispensing becomes difficult without electricity. In areas with low water pressure, a booster pump may be required, and at times, the digital touch sensors or buttons may glitch. There are also reports of more water being wasted during the auto-cleanse process.

Use RO section only if TDS demands, can change output TDS

Had to give a detailed review. So took time. I had used this machine only for couple of weeks. So it is too early to comment on few aspects and I will come back and edit/add those things.

I was comparing mainly two three purifiers. The fundamental question in my mind was whether to use a RO or simply go for UV+UF kind of things. Why? Because in our area of Hyd we do get municipal water and its TDS is typically 300 measured by a hand held meter. And it is NOT too good to reduce the Salts in your water and call it pure. So only few machines of fewer companies had this features.

Now second point compared to typically around 1000 Rs annual charges at Max for a UF+UV machine you need to spend around 5k whenever u need to change consumable like cartridges etc. With this background as far as I know Aquaguard, Urban and now Atomberg had come up with systems which offers double life ie. 12000 ltrs before replacement (earlier it was 6000). Please forgive me if I missed other companies.

Now when I read about this particular model of Atomberg, it has few great features. Like (1) it will measure TDS in the input and if it is below 300 it will bypass the RO section. (2) if you like you can vary the output TDS up to 150 in steps of 50. (3) it will not force you to change all the cartridge/filters at once. Instead it will check/diagnose and tell you which particular one needs to be replaced. This I liked. Second they say u do not worry about AMC. u pay for technician visit. Let us see how this works.

Now a twist in the store (not bad, but still a twist) I saw this model was showing around 700 TDS for my bore water and 400+ for my municipal water. How come this variation of 300 on my hand held device and 400+ on this machine. Further reading (in atomberg app help itself + reference provided) tells me that Atomberg uses a more refined way of TDS of 40:40:20 (a mixture of salts) and not just NaCl found out in sea water. So the mismatch between the readings.

After two three weeks of usage, I saw that it wastes minimum water, allows me to observe and changes options from my smartphone and finally it has a vacation mode which helps in maintaining clean status during my absence on vacation. So overall I say this moment I am happy for this purchase. Let us see how their promises work out to be.

Urban m1 + in-tank ring type uv light; no ro switching. Atomberg + ro switch below 300 tds; + not necessary to change all consumables at once.

1) Purification modes in Atomberg Intellon

Mode

What it does

Key advantage vs standard RO purifiers

Adaptive Flow Mode™

Auto-detects input TDS and picks the ideal purification mode.

Adapts to changing water conditions instead of using a fixed, one-size-fits-all RO approach.

RO + UV Mode

Recommended for higher TDS levels.

Explicit mode for high-TDS conditions when stronger purification is needed.

Taste Tune™ Mode

Lets you set output TDS as per your preference.

Gives you control over taste and output TDS compared to a fixed-output RO systems. Every drop is 100% purified through essential stages. Adjusts TDS by combining RO+UV & UF+UV purified water.

Vacay Mode™

Auto-cleans filters when idle.

Gives you safe & pure water, and also extends the life of filters.

2) Service cost comparison

Cost of Ownership: The Big “So What”

No fixed cost approach or no default RO approach. Your water quality decides your maintenance cost and filter health in the long run.

8-Year Total Cost of Ownership (including service visit):

  • Other ROs: Rs. 5K every year for next 7 yrs after the warranty period. Irrespective of filter health, you pay for replacements.
  • In Intellon: There is no fixed cost. You pay only for parts that need replacement. Your water decides your maintenance cost in the long run, as per the health of your filters.
  • Municipal water (TDS < 300): ~ Rs. 9,300 (~1200/yr)
  • Borewell/Tanker Water (TDS > 300): ~ Rs. 12,000 (~1500/yr)

Even in worst-case conditions when all filters need replacement, you pay only ~Rs. 4,000 once in 2 years. Because all replaced filters again carry a 2-year warranty, your overall ownership cost stays under Rs. 2,000/year, far lower than fixed AMCs of other brands.

Because Adaptive Filtration avoids unnecessary RO usage:

  • RO membrane life can go up to ~20,000 litres (~3+ years)
  • Remaining filters can also last ~15,000 litres (~2.5 years)

So why pay a fixed AMC every year when your filters do not even need replacement?

5) Why Adaptive RO is better and why it fits Indian homes

Water quality in India is not consistent. Even within the same city, households can see swings depending on source (municipal, borewell, tanker), season, and local pipeline conditions. A normal RO purifier typically runs in a fixed way. It applies the same purification approach regardless of whether the input water is already low TDS or has suddenly spiked. That fixed behavior often leads to two problems: unnecessary RO usage when it is not required, and higher long-term running cost due to faster filter wear.

Adaptive RO changes the logic. Instead of treating every home’s water the same, it responds to what is actually coming in. Intellon’s Adaptive Flow Mode™ detects TDS and selects an appropriate purification approach. This helps avoid unnecessary RO usage when conditions do not require it and ensures stronger purification when input water quality demands it. The practical outcome is lower maintenance volatility over time because filter wear is driven by actual water conditions, not a fixed annual plan.

This is why Adaptive RO is a better fit for Indian homes. It is designed for variability across municipal, borewell, and tanker supplies. It reduces the need to overrun RO all the time, and it supports a no fixed cost ownership model where you pay only when parts actually need replacement. In short, it aligns purification effort and maintenance cost to the real water you get at home.

Comparison

Adaptive RO (Adaptive Flow Mode)

Conventional / Normal RO

How purification is decided

Continuously monitors input TDS and automatically selects the right purification path (UF+UV for low TDS, RO+UV when required).

Runs a default purification logic. Most systems push all water through RO irrespective of whether it is needed or not.

RO usage logic

Uses RO only when water quality demands it. Avoids unnecessary membrane usage.

RO runs as an overkill solution. Even municipal water goes through RO, leading to unnecessary mineral stripping and membrane wear.

Impact on TDS & minerals

Prevents excessive TDS drop in low-TDS municipal water. Helps retain essential minerals within recommended range.

Often reduces output TDS to extremely low levels (8–30 ppm), close to demineralised water. Mineral cartridges degrade over time without transparency.

Water wastage

Significantly reduced wastage. Zero Wastage in Adaptive Mode with municipal water, and approx. 1Litre wastage ONLY for every 1 Litre purified in RO+UV mode.

RO typically wastes 2–3 litres for every 1 litre purified, even when high purification is unnecessary.

Filter replacement logic

Offers complete transparency – monitor filter health in real time based on usage & consumption. No blind replacements.

Time-based alerts. Filters are often replaced annually under AMC whether required or not.

Maintenance cost model

Lowest cost of ownership over lifetime. Pay only for the parts that need replacement post warranty period – Water quality determines long-term cost.

Fixed annual AMC model. Around ₹5,000 per year post-warranty irrespective of filter condition.

8-Year Ownership Outcome

~₹9,300 (Municipal water <300 TDS)

~₹12,000 (Borewell/Tanker >300 TDS)

Even in worst case, replacement capped at ~₹4,000 once in 2 years.

Can go up to ~₹30,000–₹35,000 over 8 years due to fixed AMC and blind annual replacement.
